Citizen Water Project

Methods to measure and map global drinking water quality have, until now, required technical training and sophisticated infrastructure, which millions lack. The Global Citizen Drinking Water and Sanitation Initiative (Citizen Water) is a potentially revolutionary open-source geo-tagged database and education suite designed to breach this barrier. It empowers communities to test the quality of their water resources using our simple and easily accessible test kits. Its interactive database then helps communities access appropriate infrastructure by connecting them with the necessary resources. The data compiled by Citizen Water indicates potential regions of water-related health concerns and thus has significant implications for both policy and scholarly research. Finally, Citizen Water encourages innovations in the arena of water and sanitation by enabling researchers to query for regional water quality parameters to serve as guidelines for the development and implementation of locally-targeted intervention technologies.
