Our Strategy
We strive to accomplish our mission through technology exchange and technical education on several different levels.
Tier 1: Immediate Needs
We provide scientific analysis and design-based support to those in need of immediate interventions and lack access to scientific laboratories and technical training. This includes improving school insulation and heating systems, aiding in water supply and delivery, designing exposure reduction plans and running health programs.
We also host web tools to help connect our partner communities to people who have an interest in learning about or helping them such as researchers wanting to design new solutions, policymakers wanting to better understand the daily problems faced by their constituents.
Tier 2: Capacity Building
We make science and engineering education available to rural Himalayan communities by running workshops, writing educational children’s stories, building schools, and designing science/engineering curricula relevant to local lifestyles. In addition to teaching science/engineering skills, the content of our educational programs aims to inspire pride in regional traditions of innovation and to encourage awareness about health and the environment.
Tier 3: Incubation
We nurture innovation and children’s desire for education by offering our technical and financial support wherever possible. We also support local entrepreneurs in developing effective and sustainable business strategies that increase the wellbeing of their communities.
Tier 4: Co-Design
We team up with communities to design practical solutions that make daily routines healthier, more comfortable, and more environmentally friendly. In all cases, we aim to draw upon local lineages of innovation rather than bringing in new technologies with little connection to community history or sense-of-self.
