One Earth Designs serves as a catalyst for socially and environmentally minded innovation among Himalayan agricultural and nomadic communities. Acting as a conduit through which communities can access technical and business support, we unleash the potential of modern design thinking.

Since its founding in 2007, OED's work has been recognized by the Dutch Postcode Lottery Green Challenge, St. Andrews Prize for the Environment, MIT $100k Competition, Clinton Global Initiative, Lemelson Foundation, Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Yunus Innovation Challenge.

Community Inspired Innovations

We believe that communities hold the key to their own sustainable growth. By providing resources and support at a range of levels, OED supplies communities with the tools they need to shape progress in the short and long terms.

Immediate Needs - scientific analysis and design-based support for those lacking access to scientific laboratories and technical training. This may include improving school insulation and heating systems, aiding in water supply and delivery, designing exposure reduction plans or running health programs. We also host web tools that connect communities with concerned policymakers and researchers.

Capacity Building - workshop administration, school construction, and science and engineering curricula design. Each of these programs aims to inspire pride in regional traditions of innovation and environmental health.

Incubation - technical and financial support for the development of effective and sustainable business strategies among local entrepreneurs.

Co-Design - expertise and resources to help design solutions that make daily routines healthier, more efficient and environmentally friendly.
